WFMW: How to Properly Eat a Pomegranate

Pin It Now!

I love pomegranates and sadly they are only around for like 2 months every year. They may seem pricey, but just one will be enough for about 4 people. Well, I could eat a whole one, but I share. :) I am always surprised at how many who ask me, "So how do you eat one of those?" You are missing out if you haven't tried one, and now you have no excuse!!

First, put an apron on!!! Do not skip this step as these ruby babies are VERY juicy!! I cut mine into fourths.

Then I immerse the pieces in water. It makes it easier to remove the seeds without getting splattered with juice.

I discard all of the outer covering and pulpy insides. Only the seeds (the part you eat) should be left in your bowl.

Drain the water and they are ready to eat! I like to place mine in the fridge for just a bit so the seeds are slightly chilled. Mmmm, then I love to eat them with a spoon. The sweet, juicy crunch is amazing!

*Updated 10-26-10* It's pomegranate season again! I am so excited that I actually have some on my tree this year~not as big or juicy as the ones in the stores but still so yummy. :)

My grandmother had a pomegranate tree in her yard. She would let us eat them on the grass stripped down to our undies! Then a quick water hose fight and we were all clean.

My MIL loves these, but I just can't get into them. I like pom flavored stuff though.

You won my giveaway for holiday cards over at The Diaper Diaries. If you can email me, I will pass your info on to Avondale Paperie. CONGRATS!!

Do you eat the seeds as well or do you spit them out? I've always sucked off the juice and spit out the seed but if its ok to eat the seed, that sure would save a step!

Yep, I eat the seeds, too. So juicy and crunchy all at the same time!! Yeah, that would tough to have to spit the seed out.

My FIL introduced me to pomegranates and I've been in love ever since (with the fruit, not the FIL) :) I love Pomegranate juice too YUM!!

We were sharing three this morning, and, as usual, it was very messy. I told my kids that someday we were going to find out how to eat them properly.

And then I saw your post! Thank you so much! :)

Mmmm. I used to eat these all the time as a kid (off of a neighbors tree). They are wonderful!

Also, I like the new blog look.

Call me stupid but I never knew you only ate the seeds. I have never bought or tried to eat them although pomegranate flavored stuff is yummy.

I don't eat pomegranets often because they stain, but these seem like some good tips.
