So It Begins...

Pin It Now!
...our sojourn out west where dirt, rock, and cactus abound!

The last time I plunged headfirst into such a DEEP pool of faith was 9 years ago on my wedding day!!

We have very little insight as to what God has planned for us out in the desert, but I am hoping it doesn't involve wandering in it for 40 years!

I am just as excited as I am sad. Going on an adventure like this goes totally against my nature. I usually HATE the unknown, but I know that this is something we are supposed to do. I am eager to see God work here!

Quote for the Day

So Far At Rivendell Elementary...

Pin It Now!
We have constructed a glow-in-the-dark Solar System (minus Pluto)

built a volcano while studying The Buried City of Pompeii

We were a bit disappointed that the red food coloring stayed down in the bottle. Oh well, they got the idea of how a volcano works.

We have grown salt crystals while studying The Dead Sea Scrolls

and baked yummy heart-shaped sugar cookies while learning about the martyr, St. Valentine.

So far we have been very busy bees! I am finally in a pretty good routine but still haven't managed to fit in cursive writing yet. So many subjects, so little time! Well, I guess its not more time I need, just less Shiloh!! Just kidding. She is wonderful, but it is quite the challenge to work school around that always-on-the-go girl!

Spaghetti Girl

Pin It Now!

If you think that's messy, you should see the floor after she eats!

Mullin used to call this Italian dish, "Speekeedetti".

The Virtue of Patience

Pin It Now! I came across this quote the other day and it made me laugh!

"If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life."
--Oscar Wilde

Obviously I laughed because I can relate. On a patience scale of 1 to 10 I might give myself a 5 depending on the circumstances of course. I believe I am more patient now than I was 5 years ago, though. God has used 3 babies who've cried alot to bring me to the halfway mark!! I still have a long way to go! In fact right now our family is in the midst of waiting on God for something and my patience is wearing thin!

The Perfect 7

Pin It Now! I can't believe that 7 years ago I birthed my oldest son!!! Seems like ages ago that I labored for 12 long, painful hours to bring forth our firstborn son. It was worth it, though! And here he is celebrating his 7th birthday with a few friends and lots of baseball stuff!

On his birthday night he got to go to a RedBirds game complete with fireworks! He got to stay up until midnight, and for him that was a huge deal!!!

Delicious Middle Eastern Dish

Pin It Now!

A couple of weeks ago I was introduced to Falafel at Kabob International while on a date with my husband. My tastebuds were pleasantly surprised, and I was even more surprised that Mark liked it since it is a meatless dish made with chickpeas.

Anyway, I spotted a box of Falafel mix while shopping in the organic section at Kroger, and decided to try it. It was really very good, in fact we are eating it for leftovers tonight! Here is a warning, though, for anyone who wants to try it: Don't make the Sesame Tahini sauce recipe on the back of the box. It was gross and tasted nothing like the sauce at the restaurant. We substituted with Ranch dressing.

A very special thanks goes to Brandon for broadening our horizons!

If anyone does try Falafel, let me know what you think!

Art Class

Pin It Now! Another school year has begun. I am thinking the boys would love to change our school name to Hogwarts from Rivendell, but unfortunately I have absolutely zero magical skills. Well, come to think of it I am not an elf either, but anyway...Mark has offered to share the load this year and teach art, my least favorite subject.

By the end of the week I have no enthusiastic energy left to teach a subject that I am not very good at. Being the great guy that Mark is I know he will make art fun and enjoyable! In fact he has already come up with a few creative ideas, one being the title--Defense Against the Fine Arts. Made me laugh! And he does such a fine impersonation of the loveable fraud, Gilderoy Lockhart, who was supposed to be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

I know Mullin is anticipating his first lesson, and I am sure he is glad that I won't be the teacher!!

Make Believe

Pin It Now! Why was it that as a child I had such a warped, unrealistic view of what it must be like to be an adult? I actually dreamed that it must be better and more fun than being a child.

As my stress level multiplies due to various reasons at the moment, I long to just be a kid again immersed in the magical world of make believe.

It was so much more fun to pretend to be preparing a meal with my cute little stove and cute mini dishes, to pretend to be a teacher teaching smiley faced Cabbage Patch Kids, to pretend to calm a baby who never made a peep, to pretend to go grocery shopping with my cute, colorful, clean cart and loads of pretend money!!

How I long to sling myself on the couch and actually be able to say (as my kids often do), "Ugh, I am so bored, there is nothing to do!!!"

Well, I guess there are a few amazing things about leaving childhood behind...my dollies never told me they loved me and that I was the best mommy in the world. They never hugged me tight and gave me tiny little kisses either.

I could go on and on and on, but it is time for me to feed the baby. And unfortunately I can't just pretend to do it.
